What Comes Around Goes Around

What Comes Around Goes Around

Last week, my wife, Donna, and I ordered a guitar cable online for our amplifier and when it arrived, it didn’t work. Donna processed a return online to send it back. Since we couldn’t find a shipping label for it, we drove to BestBuy and tried to get our money back. Even though we brought the guitar cable back to the store we ordered it from, since it was ordered online, we needed to mail it back. Donna tried to explain that they didn’t provide a shipping label, but they told us take it to FedEx and they could provide it. However, after driving to FedEx, they couldn’t help us because the label on the box that was sent to us was from the U.S. post office. So, we gave up. I suggested the forty dollars might come back to us in some way.

Fast Forward: We went to Subaru this week to get a tire sensor checked and to get an oil change and a tire rotation. After waiting almost two hours, we paid for our service and got ready to drive the car away, when Donna discovered they didn’t do either the oil change or tire rotation. We didn’t get charged for them, but the technicians didn’t do them either. We went back into the service department, they apologized profusely and acknowledged it was their fault, so they refused to allow us to pay for them. So, we saved a hundred and ten dollars. So, we were up seventy dollars and counted this as our guitar cable money coming back to us.

Fast forward again. Yesterday, I saw that our fog light cover was missing having blown away in a heavy thunder storm we drove through recently. So, we went back to Subaru, and it’s going to cost us about one hundred twenty dollars to replace it. Now, we’re down fifty dollars!

Now, I’m a pretty superstitious fellow, so I believe there are no coincidences. I firmly believe what comes around will come around again. We’ll see….

Since this story is rather short, I thought it might be a good time to mention my pet peeves when it comes cell phones:

  1. When walking on the trail at the forest preserve and we encounter someone walking along and they don’t look up when we say “Hi.” We usually get a grunt as the hiker talks on his cell phone.
  2. In a grocery store at the checkout counter when the customer can’t even manage to say a word to the cashier because they are talking on their cell phone.
  3. In a store when someone coming towards me starts talking and I think they’re talking to me. Then I get “the look.”
  4. My favorite is when someone is talking in the bathroom stall. This makes the experience difficult for everyone!

Now, I’m sure there are a lot more pet peeves that I don’t recall right now, but I hope you can catch my drift about cell phones. Have a great day!

(Please remember these are my own ideas, and I’m not attempting to persuade anyone to change theirs.)

At Least I Can Still Write I thought I’d write this newsletter today, because something funny happened that I thought you might enjoy. Because I’m growing older, I’ve needed more help from my wife, Donna. A few years ago, it got really bad when I had a hip replacement, serious blood clots and a pacemaker, all in less than two years. Things are much better now, but Donna continues to help me with everything from medication reminders and filling out all kinds of forms at doctor’s offices. I...

My Hundredth Newsletter For virtually two years, I’ve had the privilege of composing this weekly newsletter. Not only has it given me something to look forward to every week, it’s also given me the chance to share my ideas, observations and opinions. This has meant a lot to me. I’d like to thank my niece, Jen, for giving me the idea and helping me set up the newsletter. I’d especially like to thank my wife, Donna, who not only edited and encouraged me, she also helped come up with interesting...

Book Trailers In the last fifty years, I’ve written a lot of creative works including stories, poems and plays. In addition, I’ve also written a book of humorous stories, a number of self-help books and two sci fi-fantasy novels. Unfortunately, I’ve never really made any money. This would have been completely disappointing to for me if it had not been for the fact that my work has been widely read over the years. For example, my Booksie.com account has had over thirty-four thousand hits from...
